Community Travel

The Disaster, Memory and Popular Culture class with travel to New York City in September, as well as to New Orleans in January to add context to what they have been studying.

New York City
September 11–13, 2015

While in New York City, the community will:

• Visit and tour the National September 11 Memorial Museum
• Visit and tour One World Trade
• Visit the African Burial Ground National Monument

New Orleans
January 5–8, 2016

While in New Orleans, the community will:

• Meet with scholars to better understand the continuning impact of Hurricane Katrina, the BP oil spill and other environmental disasters
• Tour the Lower Ninth Ward
• Tour the eighty mile stretch of petrochemical companies, known as "Cancer Alley"
