Community Travel

The Reading to Live class begins their semester with a “reading retreat,” followed by a fall break trip to New York City.

Reading Retreat (tentative)
August (week prior to beginning of fall semester)

The purpose of the retreat is read one or two good books away from the world of texting, email, and Facebook, as well as discuss the books, observe and be a part of nature, and build community within the class.

Plans for the 2016–17 academic year are still tentative and in the planning stages.

The retreat for the 2014–15 academic year took place at the C.O.D. Ranch, outside Tucson, Arizona. The retreat included reading several books, exchanging a book with another classmmate, a mini-writing workshop, time for personal reflection, and group discussions of texts and life.
