Community Travel
Over the winter break, the Urban Americas community will conduct a study trip to Puerto Rico to compare urban problems and proposed solutions, connecting their fall semester learning to their proposed capstone projects.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
While in San Juan, the community will:
- Walking tours of Old San Juan and La Perla with Dr. Edwin Quiles, architect and urban planner
- Visit Fundacion Flamboyan to talk about the top education issues in Puerto Rico
- Meet with officials from the Foundation for Puerto Rico
- Taking an environmental social justice tour of the island
- Experience public transportation by riding and examining the issues with Tren Urbano
- Tour and meet with local public housing areas and officials
