Community Travel
There are two community trips related to this course. Students traveled to New York City over fall break to visit a leading charter school and children's nonprofit organization that specializes in child development and education. In January, students traveled to Disney World to meet with marketing and advertising professionals at Disney regarding their child-focused corporate advertising.
New York City
In New York City, students:
- Toured and met with leaders at Bloomingdale Family Program
- Toured and met with leaders at KIPP Infinity Elementary and Middle Schools
- Toured and met with leaders at Harlem Children's Zone
- Toured and meet with leaders at the Children's Aid Society of East Harlem Center
- Met with local Richmond alumni working in these fields
Walt Disney World, Florida
The community's trip to Disney World included:
- Visiting the Disney Corporate Offices in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
- Meeting with Disney representatives to learn about the company's child research, training, and recruitment
- Meeting with a journalist from the Orlando Sentinel who covers Disney
- Spending a day at the Magic Kingdom
